	(a) You would no longer need to worry about re-painting the gutters and downspouts again. (b) Copper will not mildew or stain like any painted surface, so no exterior gutter cleaning is required. (c) They will tarnish to a brown patina within a few months of exposure, which tends to compliment most any earth tone paint color. This dark tone will hide dirt much more than a lighter tone gutter. (d) The copper I install is a thicker option than what is available to local gutter contractors. This stronger 20oz copper gutter is exclusive to DMG Gutters. The standard 16oz copper used for gutters is thinner than the thinnest option for aluminum gutters, so it is not any stronger. (e) In the long run copper is a much better value, since you get metal that is worth 5 to 6 times as much as aluminum, yet only costs you only twice the cost, because most of what you pay for in construction is labor and their business expenses, so if they are quoting over double the cost you will know they are trying to cheat you. (f) Adorning your house in copper will usually increase the resale value more than the cost difference = profit, so copper is the best sort term investment. It also makes the house more sellable, because they will believe you had attended to all the details with this sort of pride. (g) And the #1 reason people buy copper gutters is for the feeling you get to know you are one of the few with real solid copper gutter wrapping around your house roof. The only down side may be the replacement cost if those copper gutters were to get damaged or stolen. It is true that roofers doing a tear-off often damage the gutters, but they are still financially responsible to fix that damage to the same condition. Since copper gutters do not have a specific life span they will have to replace with new parts no matter how old they are. Same as if they dented your car. As to theft; I have only heard one of my clients report loosing a single downspout on the corner of 16th S. E. Division. I advised they wait 5 months to see if he returns for more. Nothing happened, so they felt confident to have me replace it with copper. It has been over 7 years later and no repeat theft. Besides my bids being half of some other gutter contractors; it would be a great waste of copper and money to have them installed so poorly, like most licensed gutter contractors still do and have them not last. Aluminum -V- Copper Gutters:
Many of my gutter jobs are made with painted aluminum sheet metal and installed with stainless steel screws (no nails). Considering the high price of copper, which cost me a good 6 times the cost of aluminum gutter parts, copper may be out of the reach of most Homeowners, but my copper gutter bids have been only around twice the cost of aluminum gutters, so copper is actually the better value.

Aluminum -V- Steel Gutters:
Be very aware of rip-off gutter contractors who want to sell you on steel gutters, charming as they may be. They will claim steel gutters are stronger. Besides the fact that they are required to use a high grade of aluminum alloy for gutters, and aluminum gutters are much thicker to compensate for this strength issue, damaged gutters accounts for less than 10% of the replacements I've seen over the last decade +. At least 80% is due to rusted steel failure, so it is quite clear what should not be used. As seen with the Acura NSX sports car (shown right) they can engineer aluminum alloys to be just as strong as steel, yet still lighter for fuel efficiency, but more importantly is how aluminum will not rust. Can you see the real difference now? Do not be taken in for those lies. Steel is just a lot cheaper for them to buy and assures them of repeat business. Also, many Homeowners have been fooled into thinking they are getting aluminum, but actually got still gutters again. The metal can be easily tested with a magnet. Only steel will attract a magnet.

Cost Example:
Depending on the current market prices scrap steel is about $0.03 cents per pound = $60 per ton.

Where scrap aluminum is worth around $0.45 per pound = $900 per ton.

Copper scrap metal is worth around $2.00 per pound = $4,000 per ton.

This is why most cars are still made with cheap steel frames and body parts.
