Here are a some photos and descriptions of the standard end-caps, and my exclusive custom mitered end-cap option offered by DMR Gutters alone.

Here is an example of your standard push-on flat end-cap that has been the standard in the industry for at least half a century now.  This is the only pre-formed piece that contractors have access to at our local wholesale suppliers.  It simply pushes on the end of the gutter, we seal the inside grove with the caulk, and crimp it with a an end-cap punch to keep it from slipping off.  It is designed to be easy, quick, and functional. These end cap pieces tend to be made with a much thinner sheet metal than the gutter, so it is noticably weaker, but for the most part has been fairly reliable.

In the first year of my being a licensed gutter contractor (back in 1994) I happen to come across a very unique old world cratsmanship I had not seen before, or since. I had been contracted to replaced a set of old rusty K-4 gutters on a house in St. Johns of the Portland Oregon area. I had seen how the previous gutter contractor had gone to the trouble to miter the ends of those small gutters, instead of just sealing the ends with a flat end-cap typically seen.  Since that one set of gutters I remover I have not seen this sort of fancy workmanship on any other house; out of several thousand K style gutters I have removed or even seen on houses.

Clear back in the mid 90's I thought; 'I could do this as well, for a price'.  This helped give my fledgeling business an upper edge over my more seasoned competition. I would say less than 10% of my aluminum gutter clients have me do the fancy mitered end-cap option, so I often do not even bring it up. Where as my copper gutter clients are clearly looking for better than standard, so I usually have this listed on my bids. They can always ask to not have me bother with that detail, but it's pretty rare.

I had just one homeowner that I know of copy this style from seeing them posted on my web site. Although, he decided not to get the parts through me, because he assumed I would take offense if he were to copy my techniques, so he instead decided to get inferior thin steel parts from a local hardware store. Because of this they had started to rust out within a few years, so he then decided to get a bid from me to replace them with copper gutters. I posted photos of this on my Facebook business profile.

I have seen one example where a contractor was compelled to copy my work to replace a damaged gutter, after the new owners did not know how to get a hold of me. I was later contracted to replace it with this done proppery. I suspect that I am the only contractor in this area these days to offer this sort of mitered option shown below.

I do not try to lay claim that it seals the end of the gutter better than a standard end-cap, but does look a lot nicer and is a bit stronger.  This option costs $60.00 more per end-cap to the price of the gutter job for aluminum, or $80 more for copper gutters.  It is mostly just a cosmetic feature.

This option is not something I usually added to our estimates for aluminum gutters, but is commonly a part of copper gutter bids.  Especially if your home has the wood molding as shown in some of these photos below. This decorative option may add continuity mto the styling of your classic house, as if it was meant to be there in the beginning.  If you are interested in this option, just mention it to me at the time of the bid.
