These gutters were a satin Forest Green pre-painted aluminum to replace the old steel gutters they had, to match the trim color with Colonial Gray downspouts to match the house paint. This house is owned by Duane Anderson and his wife. The Original bid was for $2,642.50, but the client asked us not to install the screens or the oversized outlets, so that brought it down to $2,011.75. After I removed the gutters and examined the fascia boards, the client had us add some custom aluminum fascia metal cover on the back side of the house, adding $248 to the contract, for a total of $2,259.75. There was about 250' of gutters plus the downspout footage. This house was designed to have 10 corners that made it all one connected gutter system. We redesigned it to be 6 separate gutters with one downspout for each gutter. We broke it up with our unique expansion joint system. This is primarily to relieve the tension off of the corners, so they will be a lot less likely years down the road to be compromised. The reason is how the change in temperature that causes the gutters to expand and contract differently than the wood structure. Even if it is just a slight difference; it would end up ripping the corner seal open and causing them to leak. This also make the gutters more modular, so if a large branch were to fall and damage a gutter, they would have much less gutter to replace. |
A problem with the gutter project arose: Half way into the installation the client asked why I had installed the screens over the gutters I had just finished installing? Since this was clearly my fault for not being more careful to only do the work contracted; I gave Mr. Anderson the option of getting the No-clog options for half price. He graciously accepted my generous offer, but later refused to pay this discounted rate after we were finished. This hardly ever happens, so we do not normally have to take such a loss. Fortunately we have not had any noticeable trouble with 95% of our clients. They see how we go out of our way to do the best possible work for each client and are usually thrilled with our work. The final cost was still only $2,427.05 for all this with the fascia metal covers not on the original bid, which was still less than the original bid. That is $215.45 less than the bid we had first presented to Mr. Anderson. The photo just above shows the larger 3" x 4" outlets that about 4 times larger than the outlets he had in his gutters we removed, That makes them far less likely to jam up with the debris commonly found in gutter systems. Mr. Anderson now has our 25 year installation warranty and our 15 year No-clog warranty on his new gutter system we installed. To the right is a photo of one of the Leaf-catchers we make and install to strain out the debris to help keep the sewer pipes clear. We attach them to the siding with our exclusive thick aluminum pipe-cleat brackets that are firmly attached to the back of the downspout with 6 aluminum rivets each. Yet these downspouts are still easily removable with the pair of #3 Philips stainless steel screws with a wide dome shape carriage head that you see here. |
