Remember you can click on each pictures below for a better view Here is a copper gutter replacement job I did for our client Cam Buck to replace their steel fascia gutters that had constantly failed them. The original bid on 3-23-06 was for $3,753.50, just 5 days before we found out that copper prices were sky-rocketing. We were stuck at that price, since he agree to the terms and put the 1/3 down deposit just within the 30 days of the bid. The cost of copper had over double by the time we got a chance to do this work. We had still recalculated the final cost to reflect only the materials used, which was a savings of $305.18 from the original bid. |

![]() I first drove out there to remove the steel fascia gutters and haul them away for recycling. |
|
I then spent several days building these custom parts and processing the gutters in our shop for installation. This is a special custom tray for the downspout on the rear of the house. |

This is a before and after shot of the installation of our new 20oz copper gutters with the arrival of the new gutter parts. |

These photos here show how I carefully custom fit the gutters and downspout mounted on the siding to fit better and more secure than any other gutter company with stainless steel screws instead of just cheap nails. You will be hard pressed to find work as good as mine. I strive to design improvements in the drainage of the gutters with most every gutter job we do. There were numerous improvements made on this job. |
|
These Leaf-catchers I make help to keep the storm drains clear, collecting the debris and moss that will get under the screens. |

Besides the fact that we gave all the gutters a slight grade towards the outlet drains, so there is no standing water in the gutters, we implemented an expansion joint in the middle of the 50' back gutter to relieve the tension of the difference in expansion and contraction between the copper and the wood structure. I made this custom tray that the gutters dump into. These are also installed 8 times stronger than building code, which is important, since these gutter empty weigh about 3.5 times as much as aluminum gutters. But more importantly because of the metal roof they have, which will have a problem with snow sliding off and damaging the gutters. I wrote more on this issue one our Snow Damage web page. By the time we got to this job we had to raise our prices from $9 for downspouts and $11 for the 20oz copper gutters up to $12 and $15, which means we suffered a loss on this job of $830.71. Fortunately we were asked to add some custom flashing for the rear deck sides to their order, and may be asked to build a chimney cap for their 3 flue chimney. The client installed the side flashing I made and did all the railing work here. I am showing several photos of this to display what a good job he had done on it. I was very impressed. |
