Bernice found my web site and contacted me on May 3/08 to get a bid for copper gutters and a roof cleaning with the copper ridge caps on her home in Gresham.

I made these custom ridge caps from large 3' X 10' sheets of 20oz copper. For the roof over their garage I just made it with 18" wide sheets and 8" on the front side and 10" on the back North side of the roof. For the house roof I made this  set with 24" wide sheets and bent it to have just the same 8" on the front and a full 16" on the back North side, since that roof was twice as big and had much more moss on it.

I had sent her several of these photos through e-mail, so she could see what I am doing for herself, and also see issues that were hidden from the ground, like what the painters did about her chimney top.

Here is some close-up shots of the mitered endcaps I do on most copper gutter jobs. It costs a bit extra of course, so it is more rare that I do this for my aluminum gutter clients, but it is rare that my copper gutter clients ask me not to finish off the ends this way just to save that cost. I make no claims that these would work any better. It is strictly a cosmetic detail. They had opted for the less expensive black painted steel hinged leaf screens.

This was a fairly simple installation, once I had the exact measurements and a couple days in my shop processing these gutters and Leaf-catchers. It only took day to get these gutters and downspouts attached.

$6,815.29 final cost

$1,000 - moss removal and treated the roof
$2,030 - 20oz copper ridge caps
$2,655.04 - 175.48' of 20oz copper gutters 16oz downspouts w/removal
$300 - 6 mitered end-caps to seal
$305.25 - 122.1' of steel hinged leaf screen

$260 - 4 larger no-clog outlets
$260 - 4 leaf-catchers
$5 - enlarged hole in the back deck for the new downspout

The final adjusted cost was $106.96 less than the original bid

David,
Thank you for the pictures. Ron Best was here today and he is in charge at City Home Improvement
which does remodeling. He really liked your work on the roof cap. You might want to send him some pictures
of your work--Bernice
