Allan found me through my web site and contacted me just after X-mas on 12/29/08 to get a bid for aluminum gutters with copper ridge caps for moss control on his cute home in N. E. Portland. Before I got a chance to start Allan decided to go with copper gutters instead, which added over $2k to the contract. Then when I came out to remove the gutters and get the exact measurements I let him know that while up on the roof I got a closer look at the chimney flashing and saw it was in very poor shape. He asked me if I could take care of that as well, so that added another $1.5k to this job. After I had left with the old aluminum gutters he decided the house needed the rotten rafter tails cut back and a fascia board added, which increased this project by another $1k. Here are shots of the roof after doing a loose moss removal. I also needed to reattach this knee brace to the house with 3 large lag screws after using a hydraulic lift to raise up the roof and hammer it back in place. This was a fairly simple installation after I had the exact measurements, but I spent 6 days in my shop processing these gutters, Leaf-catchers, and new 2x4 fascia boards that needed painted. Here is the front set of rain-cups with the storm drain and small drywell needed for this run-off. The shot on the right shows the frames for the basket that I need to form to hold the screen in place inside the Leaf-catchers.Here is the new 2x12 shelf he had me make to help hold the fence around the back deck steady. Several of the 4x4 beams had rotted at the base. |
$11,005.46 final cost for this 14 part restoration
$ 230.00 - 46 cuts to mount new fascia board The final adjusted cost for the gutters was actually $826.45 less than the original bid |
From: "Al Viges" <viges@ajvpos.c*m> Subject: I would like to write a review Date: Sun, 21 Feb 2010 I would recommend DMR Gutters to anyone who wants quality gutters and workmanship. I went with DMR Gutters as soon as I found out that the less expensive vendors were going to cut off the decorative tails on my 1916 home. David not only assured me that he could keep the tails but he had the experience to remove the wood rot that the previous gutters created, install a support system for the new gutters, and install the new gutters in a way that would prevent future wood rot from re-occurring. Throughout the course of the project David found problems that are expected to be found in old homes (sagging roof lines, broken tails, etc.). David not only was able to resolve these issues, but came up with innovative solutions that bettered my home. One of the reasons we went with DMR Gutters was the detail that was provided on their web page. This type of workmanship was also demonstrated in the quality and detail that went into the installation of our gutters, chimney flashing and ridge caps. One option that we thoroughly enjoy is the rain-cup storm drain that David installed for us. We often receive compliments on our home since this work was done. Thanks to David for his wonderful work!
